Meet Our New Program Manager & Project Coordinator!

blog - new staff-2

Juan Gutierrez- Program Manager (Former Student Success Coach)

My name is Juan Jose Gutierrez and I was born on the 27th of January, 1996 in Monterey Park, California. My parents are Jose Luis Gutierrez Franco & Teresa Castillo Avila. They immigrated to the United States from distinct places in Mexico, in search of new opportunities & a brighter future. I am the middle child of 3, and lucky to have an older brother, who looked after me and my younger sister. My education began at home, in which my parents raised me & my siblings with unmeasurable love, family values and principles that are instilled in me today. I was raised in a culturally rich neighborhood called Boyle Heights, where mariachi’s serenade the stars & the youth dream of changing the world. I owe much of my success to the women in my life who taught me to live in faith & to always give with good will. I have implemented these principles throughout my life and educational career. I owe an immense amount of credit to my brother, mentors, friends & colleagues whom I have had the privilege to meet & interact with in the past 7 years. Without their support & of my families, I would not be able to say “I transferred from Pasadena City College in 2019 & obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology Exercise Science in 2021 at California State University, Northridge… & with hopes of continuing a Master’s program in Physician’s Assistant”.

Anthony Chavez- Program Coordinator (Former student success coach)

My name is Anthony Chavez and I was raised in the City of Whittier. I attended Rio Hondo Community College before I transferred to and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley as a Molecular and Cell Biology major. I have been helping students with the college application process since I was a freshman in college. Having been through the higher education journey myself, I understand how intimidating and overwhelming it can be for students to navigate around the college pathways. My goal is to show students that anything is possible and that higher education is an amazing experience for students to discover their passions. I wish to continue mentoring students and showing them that they can pursue their dreams regardless of the obstacles in their way.
