FINANCIAL AID 101 💰 The term “Financial Aid” refers to money used to pay for college. Some of this money is “free money” or money you don’t have to pay back like scholarships and grants. Another form of financial aid is work-study where you have to earn money by working on-campus job. Lastly, loans are borrowed money that you will eventually need to pay back.

Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) means that you plan to attend and enroll at a specific university. When you SIR to a school, you typically put down a non-refundable deposit to hold your place at the institution. This year, the SIR deadline for all the UC’s is May 15 and varies depending on the campus for the CSU’s.
