It is a great day to start something BIG
As a student your role in the college and career planning is to:
- Dream BIG!
- Set your college and career goals.
- Know what you need to do to prepare for college and careers.
- Seek support to reach your goals.
Students in middle school can do the following to start preparing themselves for college and a career.
✔ Tell your teacher and counselors about your plans to go to college
✔ Develop strong time management and study skills
✔ Take challenging classes in English, math, science, history, geography, the arts and a foreign language
✔ Get A and B grades, especially in your English and Math classes
✔ Join clubs or programs that can develop your skills
✔ Build a network of friends who also want to go to college
✔ Participate in programs that enable you to visit colleges, take college claseese, and experience college life.
✔ Take Algebra I, and pass with a “C” or better.
✔ If you are taking Algepra, take the PSAT exam in 8th grade (October).
✔ Explore a variety of high school options and programs (e.g. charter schools, magnet schools, etc.) and choose one that suits your interests and academic needs
